Activity report of ‘Sanyu’

Hello! Greetings from Global Bridge Network(GBN)!

We would like to report our last event, "Sanyu" held on 27th Aug,2017 in Yokohama, Japan.
GBN collaborated with the Jembe (West African drums) group and African dance groups!

The "Jembe" music show by Afro Shonan was very very impressive and the African Dance by "Tingatinga" and "Studio Barjara" was so energetic! 

All guests naturally shook their bodies with Jembe, African drums and dance♪

 

Mr. Futamura, former-JICA volunteer, made a presentation about his activity in Uganda. He had originally created the unique products such as leather crafts with African fabric, which is now produced by Bereesera, local NGO in Uganda, and available to purchase at GBN’s web shop.

GBN explained her activities and introduced Ugandan culture. 

Besides, so many African crafts and accessories were sold. GBN’s staff directly purchased all items from Africa!

This time, we had a great opportunity to have 3 special guests from Ugandan Embassy, who made the atmosphere more AfricaAfrican.

At the end of event, we took a group photo with guests and staffs!

This event, "Sanyu!" was held with supports from a lot of people!

We really appreciate all of them but especially "Studio Barjara", who collaborated with us to hold this event as well as performed the African dance. Not only planned and implemented "Sanyu" together with us, but also "Studio Barjara" donated to GBN’ thorough selling original T-shirts.

Event: Sanyu! (August 27th,2017 @ Kanazawa- Hakkei, Yokohama)

Today, we would like to notice our new event, "Sanyu!". 
This is a first event for us to collaborate with African Dance Group!!
A staff of GBN practices African Style Dance and her teacher got an idea to collaborate with NPO's activity and African Dance.This is a very valuable event because Jembe(traditional West African drum) group performs their music and plays drums for African Dance!
（Many venue can't accept to perform drums...!）

GBN also report our current project in Uganda.

You can enjoy African dance, drums and GBN's activity!!
We are looking forward to meeting you!

"Sanyu" means "Happy" in Ugandan language.

Global Bridge Network(GBN) collaborates with African dance group, "Studio Barjara", "tinga tinga" and African Jembe(African traditional drum) group, "Afro Shonan" in this event to introduce many variety of African culture :) 
We have African dance shows, drum show, introducing GBN's activity, Uganda culture and African craft shop.

Activity report of ‘Uganda Night’

We held “Uganda Night” on 23rd July at CASACO, Yokohama. Approximately 40 guests joined our event!! We are appreciated that many Ugandan also joined including Ms. Edith Namutebi Nsubuga who is a Counselor/Head of Chancery in Uganda embassy in Japan!

Many guests came to CASACO♪

We served a lot of types of drinks such as, Ugandan WARAGI(gin), V&A(sherry), coffee, lemon grass tea, Kenyan beer, black tea, and south Africa wine.

This is a Kenyan beer, TUSKER! 

We prepared Ugandan food, Pilau and Rolex. Pilau is steamed rice with Ugandan spicy taste. Rolex is made with chapati, egg, cabbage, onion, tomato. Egg grilled thin and put vegetables. We rolled egg with chapatti. Roll and Eggs…this sounds like is similar to ‘Rolex’! Taste is actually sooo yammy!

This is a "ROLEX"!

We also had a presentation to introducing In the introducing ‘Uganda’ presentation. During this session, , many Japanese guests asked about Uganda culture, food, and sport to Ugandan guests! Therefore, they could know about Uganda more deeply.

At this event, we had many guests over estimation. so if there were some inefficiencies our operation, we were really sorry and thank you for your understanding. We hope this event could provide become to the opportunity for that many people to be familiar with Uganda! Next our event will be held on 27th August at Kanazawa hakkei, Yokohama. Event name is “Sanyu!”
Sanyu means “Happy” in local language in Uganda.
GBN, African Style Dance and African Drum will collaborate together! We inform you the detail soon in this blog, HP and facebook. Finally, thank you for joining our event, and encouraging us!

Event: Uganda Night in CASACO, Yokohama on July 23rd(Sun)

Our casual event "Uganda Night " is held in CASACO, Yokohama on July 23rd for the purpose of introducing Uganda, Africa.

We will prepare some types of Ugandan alcohol, tea and coffee with some snacks made in Uganda !

Please enjoy Ugandan atmosphere from many photos, movies, music and books...so that you could feel and understand Uganda is beautiful country☆

Report on the workshop 'Menstrual Hygiene Management and Re-usable Sanitary Pads making'

The workshop of Menstrual Hygiene Management and Reusable sanitary pad training was conducted by Our partner NGO, SORAK Development Agency in April 10^th and 11th in Mubende district, Uganda.

Male teachers attended this workshop and explained the discussion about MHM

The goal of this workshop is to equip pupils, parents and teachers with knowledge and skills on Menstrual Hygiene Management(MHM) and making of reusable pads.

By the end of the training participants were expected to:

・Learn how to make reusable pads.

・Have a clear understanding of the MHM and be able to explain it to their peers.

・Understand their individual roles and responsibilities in MHM.

In this workshop, 30 children (21 girls and 9 boys), 6 teachers, 3 parents were selected as participants.

The highlighted features are to involve BOYs in this workshop to raise their awareness for gender-related matters (no more bullying to girls) and select parents having a child at the targeted school with also a sewing machine for the purpose of the alternative income created by themselves through sawing re-usable sanitary pads for sale.

These activities contributed towards promoting more understanding of MHM by all participants in group discussions, question and answer sessions, group presentations, sharing of personal experiences.

At first, boys felt shy and thought that MHM is associated with girls only, though they fully participated in group work and later they became comfortable and freely started talking about menstruation with girls.

All participants were able to understand their individual roles and responsibilities in MHM.

※Roles and responsibilities in promoting MHM
Children: Knowing their menstrual cycle, proper disposal, care and management of used pad (both disposal and re-usable)
Parents: Providing pads for their children, sensitizing their children about menstruation and also providing a favorable environment at home for girls like separating girl’s rooms from boy’s
Teachers: providing a concussive environment at school like separating girl’s toilets from boy’s, stocking pads at school to help girls in case of emergency

At the end of the training participants were asked to evaluate on the following;

・ 30 out of 39 participants promised to use and apply the newly acquired skills if availed with the materials.

・ 35 out of 39 participants recommended for project extension for other adolescents to benefit from other schools.

The first anniversary of GBN's foundation!

Hello everyone!

Greeting from Global Bridge Network (GBN)

I am so glad to inform you that we are celebrating the first anniversary of GBN's foundation!

This first year, we had so many tasks to prepare building GBN and discussions about what we do. At the same time, we struggled on management of our time since we have full-time jobs. With people’s support and cooperation, we managed to overcome such challenges. GBN appreciates the support from all our partners.

Regarding International Support, we stared new projects below with our great partner, SORAK a local NGO in Uganda.

'Improvement of Educational Environment for girls' with the fund from LUSH Japan.

'Environment Protection and Education' with the fund from Japan Fund for Global Environment (JFGE).

SORAK plays an important role to implement projects and I believe without this collaboration, GBN would not be able to start. We truly appreciate this great collaboration and partnership with SORAK as a team!

Moreover, we held various fun events such as 'African Night' in Japan and so happy to see participants enjoyed!

This year, we are continuing with our previous projects with SORAK and looking forward for new projects hopefully. We are also planning to hold some events such as 'Uganda night' in July and 'African dance and music' in August, in Japan.

One of our BIG plans of this year is to hold a dinner show to invite world famous musician to Japan. We will let you know the details when time comes!

Implementing our new project “Environmental Protection through Expanding Lemon Grass Growing and Education in Uganda”

We are very happy to update you about our new project in Uganda!

Deforestation and drought are becoming a serious challenge in Uganda.

We saw a lot of trees cut down for firewood and drought makes soil to be poor, which seriously affects people's livelihood since a majority of people are farmers.

The once evergreen tropical rain forest on Kibalinga sub-county-Mubende District is no more; a victim to combined charcoal burning to give way to arable farming.

We start a new project!

"Environmental Protection through Expanding Lemon Grass Growing and Education in Uganda"

To promote environmental protection through lemon grass growing and environmental education in unproductive areas of Mubende and Kyeggeggwa districts of Uganda

We are really pleased to this opportunity and will promote environment protection in Uganda with SORAK Development Agency our implementing partner in Uganda.

GlobalBridge Network（GBN） plays the role of an agent to support this project which SORAK conducts for environmental protection through growing lemon grass and income generation.

We hope that lemon grass rejuvenates soil, improves environment, and people enjoy their green circumstances in Uganda.

We strongly believe our project will achieve significant impacts to people.
