Session about Uganda

It
was a rainy day and due to the influence of the coronavirus honestly, we were
worried whether we could have any participants but on entering the venue, many
people had come and we were relieved for the time being!
We
had one session from 12:00 to introduce Uganda's culture and some of its
differences from Japan.
At
first, Ms. Ohnishi presented the mission and vision of Global Bridge Nework, the two projects
currently being carried out locally in Uganda, and the international exchange activities in
Japan.

After
that, Mr. Rafael, a Ugandan living in Japan, came in to introduce the
differences in rural and urban life, folk costumes and dances, sightseeing
spots, agriculture, and the main meals of Uganda.
If
you talk of Africa, it is often related to issues like poverty and conflict, but
we wanted you to certainly know the other different side of Uganda so we talked
about its interesting side.
At
the end of the presentation, Mr. Alex a Ugandan living in Japan then took the
floor to present a Ugandan quiz session titled "What is orange, Avocado
and Passion Fruit in Luganda?"
There
were many words similar to Japanese and it was really exciting!
Surprisingly,
everyone's thinking was sharp, and many seemed to have got the answers of the four
questions right.

In
the second half of the workshop, we interacted more with the participants
through receiving questions from them and we responded accordingly. Some of the
questions were as follows.

How did GBN start working in Uganda?

Power situation in Uganda
·
Population ratio between urban and rural areas
·
Current security situation in Uganda
·
About religion
·
Uganda image of Japanese people
·
Does 'African time' exist?
·
How did Raff and Alex come to Japan and what are they doing as their jobs ?
·
What consumption and technology do they want to take from Japan to Uganda?

There
were many questions from the participants, to the extent that the session time
could not be enough.
On
the day of the event, from morning there was generally a small number of participants
due to the cold rain and the current epidemic infection fears, so we were
worried how will it be when it comes to our workshop. However, about 20 people
participated and we were very happy.
It
was really impressive that there were many young participants who listened
seriously while taking notes.
The
reason for this workshop was to deepen interest and understanding of GBN
activities and Uganda, and
we are glad if you managed to get it!
